    American College of Physicians Journal Club and Evidence Based Medicine: Selected research articles from main medical journals, presented in summary form with expert commentary on their validity and application to practice. Includes contents list and index of previous issues. Some, but not all articles available on internet. Not specifically aimed at primary care, but may include relevant articles on therapeutics.

    Annals of Internal Medicine: By the American College of Physicians. Includes some full text articles.

    Archives of Evidence Based Healthcare indexed list of the discussion groups messages back to December 1996, which can be searched by author, date or topic.

    British Medical Journal: Full text of all issues back to January 1994, announcements and search facilities. See also BMJ Publishing Group

    BUBL Journals, for contents, abstracts or full texts from over 200 current journals and newsletters.

    Bulletin of Medical Ethics published ten times a year, list of current contents, with full text of the editorial and one or two leading articles.

    Clinical Chemistry, the international journal of laboratory medicine and molecular diagnostics, full text available from 1997, abstracts back to 1975, tables of contents only 1965-74. Abstracts seem available free on-line; subscription may be needed for full text.

    Clinical Evidence, new from BMJPG, first issue due June 1999."Tasters" previewd from this new BMJ Publishing Group journalinclude: recommendations for the management of primary hypertension, childhood asthma, eneuresis and perineal care are available if you have Acrobat Reader, and the patience to wait!

    NEW! Drugs and Therapeutics Bulletin, summary of latest issue and contents list for issues since December 1994.

    Evidence-based Mental Health, sister journal to Evidence-Based Medicine, with full-text of the EBMH notebook; full-text of selected articles; archive of previous issues; glossary of terms; letters and debate section. 

    Gut Electronic version of this gastro-intestinal journal from the BMJ Publishing Group, providing access to the current edition and an archive: full text (some as PDF)back to January 1998; 1997; abstracts back to 1975; tables of contents only February 1966-December 1974. Seems to be freely available on-line.

    Health Information on the Internet, bi-monthly newsletter from the Wellcome Trust and the Royal Society of Medicine. 

    Informatics, The Journal of Informatics in Primary Care, full text of papers since June 1995; also hosts a specialist groups for Primary Care.

    Instructions to Authors, from ScHARR, for budding writers, covering the preferred format for most leading journals.

    Journal of the American Medical Association: free on-line samples from the latest issues.

    The Lancet: even non-subscribers to the paper copy can register. This provides access to lists of contents and some full text articles, archives of e-mail discussion lists, a simple search engine and instructions for authors.

    MedWeb Periodicals index: a huge list of journals, magazines and newsletters on specialist subjects (for instance, did you know there is an International Journal of Ramadan Fasting Research ? Also includes fairly mainstream topics like depression, forensic medicine and terminal care. Provides brief descriptions of the journals’ scope and if possible a link to their home pages.

    New England Journal of Medicine: List of contents and abstracts; access to full text is restricted to subscribers only.

    2. Primary Care Journals

    Family Practice Management: More about the business of running primary care than anything clinical and from an American perspective. Full text articles. 

    American Family Physician: Index and abstracts, now has full text back to mid-1997 and abstracts back to May 1996.

    Archives of Family Medicine: Access to abstracts not full text, with archive back to 1995. 

    The British Journal of General Practice: full text now available for the current year.

    Family Medicine Journal: Index and abstracts. Not full text.

    International Journal of General Practice and Primary Care: Large archive of articles including full text.

    3. Nursing Journals

    NEW! Evidence-based Nursing, each issue contains journal club style summaries of 24 pieces of research into nursing interventions, plus notes on making better use of the nursing literature.

    NEW! Nursing Ethics, a bi-monthly journal written to guide you through the maze of complex issues around ethical and legal issues in nursing.

    Nursing Standard: Editorial, letters, courses and some articles 

    4.Health care management journals

    Evidence-Based Health Care, for each issue of the Journal key articles are selected from over 70 of the most authoritative and respected journals in the field and reviewed in the form of a structured abstract and expert commentary.

    Health Affairs: Health care and economics from an American perspective, so at present a lot on "managed care." Index of past issues and on-line abstracts but not full text. 

    Health Service Journal: Good for health policy and management and jobs in these areas.

    Journal of Healthcare Management, American view on healthcare management, home page provides access to contents of back issues, with articles like "Predictors of hospital failure." Very brief description of each article, about one sentence, rather than proper abstract available on-line. 

    Health Policy: Contents of current and previous issues only, no abstracts or full text articles. 

    Journal of Evaluation in Clinical Practice: Published by Blackwell Scientific Publications. Apparently, you can order a free trial copy on-line. List of recent issues contents, but anything else requires subscription. 

    Medical Decision Making: On-line abstracts of articles from the current, recent and forth-coming issues, but not full text. 

    5. Other Scientific Journals

    New Scientist

    EurekAlert: joint British / American site, with brief full text of recent biomedical reports and journalism, rather than full scale academic papers.
